Pronaca promotes the reopening of the Bolivian market

January 17, 2025

Pronaca has made a substantial advancement in its endeavor to reenter the Bolivian market by resuming the exportation of turkey meat. Bolivia, with a per capita consumption of 1.7 kilograms of turkey per year, is once again receiving this Ecuadorian product, thanks to the recertification of Pronaca’s Yaruquí Poultry Plant, which has been found to meet the highest quality and sanitation standards.

An Ecuadorian product will be arriving in Boliva, distinguished by its superior quality and competitiveness. This product will join imports from countries with stringent standards of production, including Chile, Brazil, Spain, Peru, France, and the United States.

According to data from the National Corporation of Poultry Farmers (CONAVE), turkey production in Ecuador exhibited a 11% increase in 2024, reaching 20,644 tons. This growth indicates that turkey has become a prominent and favored choice among Ecuadorian consumers, reflecting the country’s capacity to meet both domestic and international demand.

Bolivia: a market with significant potential for Ecuadorian products

In addition to turkey meat, the Bolivian market presents a strategic opportunity for the export of Ecuadorian seafood products. Bolivia’s annual per capita consumption of fish stands at 2.6 kilograms, falling short of the levels observed in neighboring countries. While Bolivian aquaculture produces approximately 24,000 tons per year, this figure is inadequate to satisfy domestic demand, compelling the country to import approximately 9,000 tons of fish annually.

“Bolivia represents a market with a growing demand for high-quality food and significant potential for Ecuadorian exports,” observed Matías Villalba, Pronaca’s Animal Protein Export Manager. The rigorous recertification process for the export of turkey meat exemplifies Pronaca’s unwavering dedication to the highest standards of sanitation and quality. This milestone strengthens our ability to position Ecuadorian products in highly competitive markets.

Patricio Almeida, the executive director of Agrocalidad, stated the following: “The decision to provide support to Pronaca in this recertification process is indicative of cooperative effort on the part of both entities to generate new opportunities for the Ecuadorian productive sector. Bolivia serves as a prime example of the positive impact engendered by public-private partnerships, which have been shown to diversify exports and strengthen national economies.

Pronaca has made significant progress in its mission to “Feed Well,” which is defined as the company’s commitment to opening international markets for Ecuadorian products, contributing to the development of the agro-industrial sector, and promoting the recognition of the quality of its protein.
